Primary fire break

Then we came around a corner, and Pine Ridge turned from a secondary fire line to a primary fire line. This lasted for probably a mile or mile and a half. The line is about 20 - 30 yards wide and debris is piled deep on both sides. The dust on the road is honestly several inches deep, and you are totally exposed.

It really gave me a feeling of being the last survivor. It was really still, really hot, and very exposed feeling. Maybe over time that will turn into feeling open - but for the moment, it's sort of creepy.
